Netflix has confirmed that Sex Education season two has officially finished shooting and we honestly can’t wait for its return.

The streaming giant announced the joyous news that Gillian Anderson, Asa Butterfield and the rest of the cast had completed filming for the next chapter on Facebook by sharing a photo of the gang celebrating.

Connor Swindles, who plays the headmaster’s son Adam Groff in the series, captured the selfie which saw him and his co-stars and the crew cheering at the camera.

Unsurprisingly, fans went mad for the snap and expressed their excitement for the coming-of-age comedy’s comeback.

‘This was the first series I binged on when I signed up to Netflix and I’ve missed it sooooo much!’ wrote one, ‘Thank goodness the second season is almost here!’

Echoing a similar sentiment, another added: ‘First season was brilliant can’t wait for next one.’

Netflix revealed they had ordered a second season of Sex Education back in February after an estimated 40million of us binged the show within the first four weeks of it dropping on the streaming service.

Production kicked off in the spring and although the release date has yet to be announced, it’s expected that the new installment will land on the platform either at the end of the year or early 2020.

All our favourite characters will be returning for a further eight episodes, including Gillian, Asa, Emma Mackey, Ncuti Gatwa and Aimee-Lou Wood.

Speaking about the recommission, showrunner Laure Nunn said: ‘The reception to series one has been so exciting. Seeing how people across the world have connected to characters that began as ideas in my head is incredible.

‘I’m hugely grateful to every person that has taken the time to watch the series, and I can’t wait to continue this amazing journey.’

Sex Education is available to stream on Netflix.
