‘NBA 2K20’ Adds 6 New Classic Squads To Its Mammoth Set Of Vintage Teams
On the heels of the announcement of six new All-Decade teams (50s-60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, 2010s) 2K announced six new classic squads on Wednesday.
As I predicted, 2K has added the 15-16 Cleveland Cavaliers that came back from a 3-1 deficit to knock off the 73-win Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals.
This was a no-brainer. That team obviously includes LeBron James in his most impacting season, a dynamic Kyrie Irving, Kevin Love, J.R. Smith, Tristan Thompson, Iman Shumpert, and more. Without question, this is one of the most important teams in recent NBA history.
2K also welcomed the following five classic teams to its already huge set of vintage selections.
This is the oldest of the new additions.
The 02-03 Phoenix Suns didn’t have Steve Nash, but they did have Stephon Marbury at point guard, a rookie Amare Stoudemire, Shawn Marion, an aging Anfernee Hardaway, a young Joe Johnson, Tom Gugliotta and Bo Outlaw.
The team was eliminated from the postseason in the first round by the San Antonio Spurs in six games.
It’s perfect timing to add this San Antonio Spurs team.
After Kawhi Leonard led the Toronto Raptors to their first title in franchise history this past season, and won NBA Finals MVP, it’s appropriate to add in his first championship squad.
Leonard had his breakout performance with these Spurs as they downed the Miami Heat’s Big Three.
Leonard won Finals MVP despite having Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, and Tony Parker on the squad.
Who knows how good the Portland Trail Blazers could have been with Brandon Roy had he not gotten hurt.
The team lost in the first round of the postseason in six games to the Suns, but if Roy had been healthy moving forward, it might have been the beginning of a long run of contending teams in Rip City.
This Portland team also had LaMarcus Aldridge, Nicolas Batum, Marcus Camby, an oft-injured Greg Oden, and Patty Mills.
If ever there was a team that seemed like a group that should have accomplished more, it was the LA Clippers of 2013-14.
They lost in six games to the Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook-led Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Semifinals.
With Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, DeAndre Jordan, Jamal Crawford, along with aging and injured versions of Antawn Jamison, Danny Granger, Stephen Jackson and Hedo Turkoglu, this Clippers team could be interesting to control in 2K.
The prize of this team is a prime Gilbert Arenas.
At this stage in his career, he was nearly unguardable. This team also had Jamison and Caron Butler, but if I’m being honest, it’s by far the worst of the new teams added.
They were swept in the first round of the playoffs by the James-led Cavs team that went to the NBA Finals. NBA 2K20 releases for PS4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch on September 6.
