Nate Diaz smokes CBD joint as he trains for UFC 244 clash with Jorge Masvidal | UFC | Sport
Nate Diaz is currently preparing for his eagerly-anticipated showdown with Jorge Masvidal, and he’s doing it in typical Diaz brother style.
The Ultimate Fighter season five winner will lock horns with his fellow fan favourite on November 2 in the main event of UFC 244.
Diaz’s second fight camp of the year is already underway, with the 34-year-old splitting his time between Richard Perez Boxing and the Nick Diaz Academy.
Video footage of Diaz’s preparations at Perez’s gym, which he’s trained at for the majority of his career, started doing the rounds on social media on Friday afternoon.
One clip showed the Stockton native moving around and hitting a slip ball, which fighters use to work on their agility.
And surprisingly, the former lightweight title challenger was smoking a joint as he striking the bag.
Somehow, Diaz showed no problem managing his breathing as he struck the bag, inhaling and exhaling as he smoked the joint with ease.
It’s unknown if the joint Diaz was smoking contained marijuana, but it’s likely it didn’t as he and his elder brother Nick recently launched their own cannabis oil (CBD) nutrition company, which was tagged in the video.
Diaz, of course, stunned fans during his open workout ahead of his UFC 241 clash with Anthony Pettis – which he won via unanimous decision – by lighting up and smoking a joint, which later turned out to be CBD.
UFC president Dana White was shocked by Diaz’s pre-fight antics, telling Jim Rome: “I don’t know what to say.
“I didn’t expect to ever see that in this sport or any sport, but you can always expect the unexpected with the Diaz brothers.”
The booking of Diaz vs Masvidal was received warmly by the entire mixed martial arts community, with the prospect of the pair throwing down sending many fans into a frenzy.
Amongst those elated by the fight announcement was UFC commentator Joe Rogan, who said: “When I saw it on my Instagram feed this morning I threw my arms up like somebody got knocked out. ‘Yes!’”
When pressed further on the bout, Rogan added: “It’s worth money. I had said that I think Nate Diaz is one of the biggest superstars in the game, right up there with everybody.
“I guess there was some negotiations or something because Dana White refuted it. He goes, ‘Well I don’t think Nate Diaz is in our long term plans. Nate fights once every three years.’ I’m like, don’t say that.
“[But] I’m sure [it was part of the negotiation] and to let Nate know that look, we’ve got other plans. There’s other s**t that we’re doing.”
