Mindhunter’s Damon Herriman plays Charles Manson in OUATIH too
Hooray, our favourite chalk-and-cheese FBI agents are (almost) back! Holt McCallany’s Bill Tench and Jonathan Groff’s Holden Ford return to delve into the murky psyches of the most notorious serial killers of the ’70s in season two of Netflix’s acclaimed thriller Mindhunter, out tomorrow (August 16).
The latest series features the charismatic duo encountering Charles Manson, and actor Damon Herriman who plays the ex-cult leader, also plays Manson in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
In a trailer for season 2, serial killer Ed Kemper (played by Cameron Britton), who appeared throughout season 1, can be seen calmly warning Holden about what not to do when he meets with Manson in prison.
“One more thing, Manson is small, like really small, try not to stare…” he says.
Holt recently praised Damon’s performance as Manson and said he was as natural in the part as Cameron was while playing Ed.
“Every once in a while, the right actor meets the right role at the right time in the right project,” Holt told Joe. “It happened in season 1 with Cameron Britton as Ed Kemper and he just hit a homerun right out of the park. It happens again this season with Damon Herriman as Charles Manson.”
In Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Damon has a non-speaking part as viewers only catch a glimpse of him in a car. His acting credits also include Sky Atlantic’s Quarry, BBC2’s Top of the Lake, and FX’s Justified.
Mindhunter season 2 will also centre on suspected Atalanta serial killer Wayne Williams, who is believed by police to be responsible for at least 23 of the 30 Atlanta child-murders of 1979 – 1981.
Anna Torv returns as psychologist Wendy Carr. The cast also includes Joe Tuttle, Albert Jones, Stacey Roca, Michael Cerveris, Lauren Glazier, and Sierra McClain.
Mindhunter 2 launches on Netflix on Friday, August 16.
